Young adult bereavement support
UC Davis Children’s Hospital and UC Davis Hospice Program offer an eight-session grief support group for young adults who have experienced a loss. The group is offered twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. The group is appropriate for young adults, age 17 to 24, who have experienced the death of someone close to them.
The young adult bereavement art group uses art therapy combined with a discussion based approach to support healthy bereavement and recovery. An art therapist from UC Davis Children’s Hospital works collaboratively with UC Davis Hospice program’s bereavement coordinator to provide this service. The group is available free of charge to the community.
Topics included in the eight-session program include:
- Acknowledging and understanding grief
- Expressing and accepting feelings
- Changing of roles
- Coping and stress
- Developing supportive relationships
The sessions are held in the UC Davis Home Care Services Building, at 3630 Business Drive, Suite F, Sacramento.
Once a year, UC Davis also offers an eight-week-long support group for parents who recently have lost a pediatric-aged child.
