EMILY SANSON-SMITH is assistant dean for administration at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. In that role, she serves as a key adviser to the dean and the leadership team of the school. Sanson-Smith leads in financial reporting, forecasting and policy setting on administrative matters, organizational development, risk management and operations. She is also responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing administrative systems in the school as it expands in number of degree programs, enrollment and research projects.
With extensive experience since 2000 in administration, budgeting and human resources, Sanson-Smith brings strategic thinking and a critical eye on the mission and vision of organizations she serves. She has served in several positions at UC Davis and UC Berkley, as well as working with Adecco Australia and Challenge Consulting in Sydney, Australia, while completing her graduate work.
Prior to joining the School of Nursing, Sanson-Smith was associate director of administration for the California Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) Lab at UC Davis. In overseeing the administration unit, she evaluated new business opportunities, developed annual budgeting processes for 19 internal service units, increased interdepartmental communication and coordinated capital outlay projects.
Sanson-Smith earned a Master of Business Administration from California State University, Sacramento, which included study abroad at the University of Technology, Sydney. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from UC Davis. She is a member of Phi Beta Delta Honor Society, the first honor society dedicated to recognizing scholarly achievement in international education.
