The Department of Public Health Sciences is a major research, teaching and service unit with programs in a wide range of areas relevant to population health and disease prevention. The Department is dedicated to the improvement of human health through education, research, partnerships with organizations and communities, and the dissemination and translation of knowledge locally and globally. The department is also the UC Davis home to the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, a state-funded multi-campus research and education program.

Faculty are actively involved in team-based and interdisciplinary research throughout the School of Medicine and across campus, and provide core support to other researchers through the Cancer Center, Clinical and Translational Science Center, Alzheimer’s Disease Center, and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center. Our research interest cover epidemiology, environmental and occupational health, biostatistics, health policy, health economics, and informatics.

Faculty are nationally competitive with research support from funding sources that include the National Institutes of Health (NIH), state agencies such as the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), and organizations from the private and public sector. Through investigation of cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, neurodevelopment disorders such as autism, respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and injuries, our faculty translate new research findings into novel treatments, prevention and improve education. Current projects are focused on women’s health, children’s health, traumatic injuries in military veterans, nutrition, health disparities, access to care, mobile health technologies, environmental exposures, and worksite health interventions.
